So, to gain a feel of what will be more prevalent in the upcoming year, we met with designers and examined current projects. The positive news the outlook is excellent, with tones of warmth, elegance, and details.
2023 Living Room Trends:

1. Outdoor Living:
In 2023, living rooms will expand beyond the home as outdoor entertaining continues to be popular. Why enter the house when your outside space is designed with living areas that rival your interiors, like this one by Ashley Gilbreath?
2. Daybeds:
Perhaps it’s their versatility or a touch of nostalgia, but daybeds make a significant comeback in vast living rooms. Here, Zo Feldman divides the spacious living room of the 2022 Whole Home with a Serena & Lily daybed while preserving the sculptural window. It acquires a custom appearance when covered in a Sanderson cloth.
3. Meaningful Collections:
The founder of the design co-op and company Colony, Jean Lin, reflects that the items we surround ourselves with in our houses have the greatest ability to reduce our anxiety. “Whatever it is that brings your genuine self to your living space maybe it’s your grandfather’s collection of fly fishing lures, or maybe you’re fanatical for ancient maps is on style.” Kesha Franklin of Halden Interiors created a place in a New Jersey residence for a newly bereaved art collector to display the owner’s collection of artwork and memorabilia.
4. Next-Level Media Experiences:
Twenty-three proves to be the year when many homeowners invest in an updated media experience, whether in the form of a large-scale TV or custom sound system, thanks to the weekly release of new binge-worthy shows and the increased comfort of staying in.
5. Fluted Details:
We devoted a complete article to this theme because it was prevalent at this year’s Kips Bay Dallas show house. Designer Linda Hayslett of Next Wave concurs, stating that “fluted and reeded objects in neutral environments” are very popular. While the style was previously limited to little detail areas, we forecast it will become more prevalent in homes next year, as seen in this room by Jean Liu.
6. Multifunctionality:

Warm earth tones work well as neutrals to go with those deep hues. According to Max Gansow, co-founder of the furniture company Vetsak, “we see a trend toward warm, non-intrusive, neutral tones and materials, which bring comfort and security, in 2023.” Raw, organic materials and colors like brown ocher, which we include in our range of real bovine leather, provide a cozy-yet-current foundation. 8. Rich, Muted Tones:
2023 is anticipated to be the rich, brilliant colors in muted tones, in contrast to recent years, which have been all about green tints and the heyday of Millennial Pink. Rupp Studio created a mood that we adore with a burgundy velvet sofa, deep sage lime-washed walls, and pillows that resemble teal’s hotter cousin.
